Smiths Interconnect today announces a $30 million contract for its advanced broadband antenna system which will enable airline passengers to access a range of high data rate applications including internet, cell-phone services, live television and movies.

The KuStream™ antenna system was selected by airborne broadband communication company Row44 for its Broadband Connectivity System which will be installed on the Southwest Airlines fleet from April onwards.

Developed by Smiths Interconnect company, TECOM Industries, Inc., KuStream provides industry-leading performance in three critical areas: high data rates that enable applications such as internet and live TV; accuracy to ensure connectivity with satellites even at very shallow trajectories between aircraft and satellite; and signal sensitivity allowing maintained connectivity at very low signal strengths.

Ralph Phillips, President of Smiths Interconnect, said: "We are delighted that Row 44 has selected the TECOM system. Its exceptional performance puts it firmly in the vanguard of enabling broadband services to airline passengers.

John Guidon, CEO of Row 44, said: "After careful evaluation, Row 44 selected the TECOM KuStream antenna system.  We are pleased to have them as our supplier for the Southwest Airlines program."
