SMITHS Interconnect, a division of the global technology company Smiths Group, today announces that one of its businesses – PolyPhaser – has been selected to supply lightning and surge protection solutions for a 4G WiMAX deployment in the United States.
Base stations are susceptible to lightning strikes since they are often mounted on towers, roof top sites or other exposed locations. Unprotected base stations can result in serious communication failures. PolyPhaser is a leading provider of this type of protection.
PolyPhaser has designed a custom product (from its GX™ series) which utilises PolyPhaser’s unique patented surge protection technology providing exceptional surge protection and outstanding radio frequency (RF) performance. The GX™ series is a proven Global Positioning System (GPS) protection product, and is installed in areas that are susceptible to lightning.
Paul Cox, Group Managing Director of Smiths Specialty Engineering, said: “This important selection exemplifies Smiths Specialty Engineering’s drive to explore growth opportunities by leveraging our position in the global telecommunications industry, whilst developing leading technology that helps our customers to succeed.”
