Smiths Group plc is pleased to announce the appointment of Mel Rowlands as Company Secretary and Deputy General Counsel with effect from 29 May 2015. Mel joined Smiths as Deputy General Counsel in 2013, having previously held senior legal posts at Linde, Edwards and Centrica.

Zillah Stone, who joined Smiths as Company Secretary on an interim basis in November 2014, is concluding the assignment after six months in order to pursue other opportunities.

Chief Executive Philip Bowman said: “I would like to thank Zillah for her support to the Board and valued contribution to Smiths. I wish her well for the future and also congratulate Mel on a thoroughly deserved promotion into this challenging new role.”

Smiths Group also announces that Peter Durman, Director of Investor Relations and Corporate Communications, has tendered his resignation in order to take up a post at Imperial Tobacco. Peter, who will step down on 25 September 2015, will be succeeded by Andrew Lappin, Smiths Group’s Director of Government Relations in the new combined role of Group Director, Corporate Affairs. Andrew will also join the Executive Committee.

Philip Bowman said: “I have very much enjoyed working with Peter, and the Board is grateful for the significant contribution he has made in articulating the Smiths story to investors and other stakeholders over the past seven years.

“We are truly sorry to see Peter leave and wish him every success in his new role. I add my congratulations to Andrew who has worked closely with Peter for six years and is ideally placed to ensure a smooth handover and succession.”
