Smiths Detection, a global leader in threat detection and security screening technologies, announces it will be supplying 47 CTX 9800 DSi explosive detection systems to the Transport Security Administration (TSA). The equipment is being deployed across the U.S. following Smiths Detection’s recent successful competitive bid for the provision of 24 systems, and as part of the 2018 awarded indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract for hold baggage screening equipment at U.S. airports.

The CTX 9800 DSi provides explosives detection using a proprietary single X-ray source, dual energy design that provides high-resolution 3D images along with 2D and 3D organic/inorganic material discrimination for hold baggage.

With over 2,000 units deployed worldwide, the CTX platform is a proven technology that has been utilized by the air transportation industry for the past 20 years. The certified technology is a tried and tested asset for airports globally. The latest generation of CTX 9800 further enhances the airport operator’s ability to meet evolving security and operational challenges by providing both advanced screening capabilities and efficiencies in business management solutions.

Shan Hood, President of Smiths Detection Inc., commented, “We are delighted to announce this new order to supply our CTX 9800 DSi systems, which highlights the vital role Smiths Detection CT technology plays in aviation security. This proven yet innovative technology delivers ever increasing value to users, which allows us to continually offer the most reliable, advanced and future-proof solutions needed to protect our skies.”

The CTX 9800 is certified by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration, Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) and approved by the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) as meeting European Union Standard 3.0 and 3.1 requirements.
