LONDON, 5 June 2023: Smiths Group, the industrial technology company that improves our world through smarter engineering, announces today it has appointed James Down as Group General Counsel. James will join the Group’s Executive Committee and report to Chief Executive Paul Keel.

Paul Keel, Chief Executive Officer at Smiths Group, said: “It’s my pleasure to name James Down as General Counsel of Smiths Group. James is a customer-focused leader, committed to developing both our business and our people. I look forward to working even more closely with James as we execute our strategy to bring greater value to all stakeholders.”

James Down said: “I’m honoured to join Smiths Group’s Executive Committee as Group General Counsel. It’s an exciting time for our company and I am eager to contribute to our strategy of accelerating growth, improving execution, and developing people.”

James has been with Smiths Group for the past six years in a series of senior roles, including Group Head of Legal M&A, Corporate General Counsel, and most recently, General Counsel for Smiths Detection. Prior to joining Smiths, James held positions of increasing responsibility at SABMiller and Hogan Lovells.

James is based at Smiths headquarters in London.
