Innovative, environmentally friendly product provides up to 90% more energy transfer than existing offering

Smiths Interconnect, a leading global provider of connectivity products and solutions, and a business unit of Smiths Group plc, today announces the launch of its new Hypertac Green Connect™ technology, designed to tackle the critical issue of power loss in battery systems and solutions used in industrial applications.

The new technology provides up to 90% more energy transfer than existing solutions leading to significantly longer battery life. It is designed for use across a range of applications including high voltage battery packs in electric transportation and mobility (e.g., rail, military transportation, commercial trucks, boats, ports and buses) and static energy storage applications.

In addition, the product is free from lead and beryllium unlike existing market solutions, ensuring it is more environmentally friendly, safer to manufacture, and benefits customers due to the removal of the need for environmentally safe disposal at the end of its lifespan.

Mark Kelleher, VP and GM of Smiths Interconnect’s Connectors Business Unit, said: “The importance of electric batteries continues to rise as the world looks to move towards more efficient and sustainable energy sources. We have developed an innovative technology giving unparalled battery performance for use in a broad range of demanding applications. I’m delighted to bring this advanced solution to the market for the benefit of our customers.”

Smiths Interconnect’s core business is to design and produce highly specialised electrical connectors, which are critical devices that join electrical circuits together to create an electrical connection. With the launch of the new Hypertac technology, Smiths Interconnect’s engineers have improved the contact points of the connectors in the circuit of electric batteries by reducing high-contact resistance thereby creating a more efficient and higher-performing battery.

This cutting-edge solution ensures optimal utilisation of every kilowatt-hour of energy stored in the battery, enhancing overall efficiency and performance. The new technology provides a robust connection capable of efficiently handling continuous currents of up to 500 amperes, ensuring both cost and time savings for the customer.
