Cleo 90 Infusion Set awarded 2006 Industrial Design Excellence Award
SMITHS Medical, part of the global engineering business Smiths Group, has been selected as silver award winner in the 2006 Industrial Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) for its Cleo 90 insulin infusion set.
It is the second award for the Cleo 90. Earlier this year the device received the 2006 Medical Design Excellence Awards (MDEA) gold award in a competition that exclusively recognizes contributions and advances in the design of medical products. The Cleo 90 was one of just nine products to receive the MDEA gold award honour.
IDEA is co-sponsored by BusinessWeek and the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA). The Cleo 90 was honoured in this years competition after its exceptional design, intelligent functionality and innovation impressed the jury.
The Cleo 90 was created after extensive conversations with insulin pump users. As a result of listening to people with diabetes a team from Smiths Medical was able to redefine the industry standard for infusion sets for those who rely on an insulin pump - such as Smiths Medicals Deltec Cozmo® pump - to manage their diabetes. The pump continually delivers insulin through a small cannula inserted in the body with an infusion set.
We are honoured to receive another important industry recognition of the Cleo 90 infusion sets unique design and new features that reduce complexity, maximize comfort and ensure safety for persons with diabetes, said Jim Stitt, president of Smiths Medical MD, Inc. The Cleo 90 infusion set is the result of listening to our customers, and asking them what features would make their lives easier. Its no surprise that the Cleo 90 infusion set is getting such positive reviews our customers helped us design it.
Cleo 90 infusion sets will be available for sale outside the U.S. from October this year.
