Smiths Group plc is pleased to announce the appointment of Noel Naval Tata as an independent Non-executive Director with effect from 1 January 2017.
Noel Tata is the Managing Director of Tata International Limited, a global trading and distribution company and a trading arm of the Tata Group, the privately-owned multinational holding company headquartered in Mumbai, India. Mr Tata is also a director of various Tata group companies including those listed below. Mr Tata has a BA in Economics from the University of Sussex and completed the International Executive Programme at the INSEAD Business School in France.
The Chairman of Smiths Group, Sir George Buckley, said: “The Board is absolutely delighted to welcome Noel as an additional non-executive director. He will bring a distinct and very valuable contribution to the Board. He has had a long and successful business career to date and an impressive track record in high growth economies where Smiths is accelerating its growth agenda. Mr Tata will be a member of the Audit, Nomination and Remuneration Committees.

Mr Tata is currently an independent, non-executive director of Kansai Nerolac Paints Ltd; the non-executive Chairman of Tata Investment Corporation Ltd and of Trent Ltd; a non-independent, non-executive director of Titan Company Ltd and of Voltas Limited, all of which companies are publicly listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange of India. There are no other publicly listed companies in which Mr Tata has held directorships in the last five years. There is no other information concerning Mr Tata which requires notification under LR9.6.13R of the Listing Rules of the UK Listing Authority.
